In 1926, William Meyers started a business delivering ice and coal to homes and the Elmhurst, IL area. Being a pioneer of his time, he made a very smart business decision realizing that advances in technology would eventually put him out of work. With that in mind he created Wm. Meyers Movers a household goods moving company.
Meyers Movers started to gain a reputation for quality service and dependability that earned him repeat business and word of his company began to spread.
In 1945 as the troops were coming home from the Second World War, Mr. Meyers made yet another smart decision, he hired an enterprising young man named Bill Miller. A year later, Bill fell in love and married Mr. Meyers' daughter, Lois.
Then, in 1957, William Meyers decided after 31 years in the moving business that it was time for him to retire and hand the company down to his daughter and son-in-law. Bill possessed many of the same strong work ethics and business ideals as his predecessor and the second generation of Meyers Movers was soon under way.
In 1960 in what became one of the most important elections in United States History, Bill got the news that he won the bid to haul the equipment for the Presidential Election. To date, Meyers Movers is still one of just four moving companies in all of DuPage County allowed to handle the storage, delivery and pick up of local, state, and Presidential election equipment.
In 1970, at the pinnacle of Bill Miller's career, he and Meyers Movers had gained the respect and confidence he had been striving for. Among the company's achievements, Meyers Movers acquired Chicago's renowned law firm Bell, Boyd and Lloyd, as valued clients. Meyers Movers is proud that BB&L, one of Chicago's largest law firms, remains one of their longest standing clients and has become a part of the Meyers Movers Family.
In 1972, Kenneth Miller, the son of Bill and Lois, made the choice after graduating from college to work in the family business. Together with his wife Linda, Ken made the 3 rd generation official when he took over the company full-time in 1974.
At that point, Meyers Movers was still operated out of an office in the Miller's home. Ken and Linda were ready to take Meyers Movers to the next level of competition in the moving business and 1984, they became prime agents with Arpin Van Lines. Proving to national headquarters that Meyers Movers was dedicated to pride and excellence they soon became top agents in the country. Also, in 1984, Ken Miller was elected to the Illinois Movers and Warehousemen's Association ( www.imawa.com ) serving as President from 1991-1993 and continues to this day to be on the Board of Directors.
In 1987, Meyers Movers was ready to expand even further. The company left the family home in Elmhurst, which had been its headquarters since 1926 and moved to Itasca, IL. Today, Meyers Movers operates in 30,000 square feet of office and warehouse space.
In 1989, Ken took the principals that Meyers Movers was built on to Halas Hall, to meet with the NFL's Chicago Bears. Ken proved that Meyers Movers could provide top notch service and earned the storied franchise as a client. Over the next few years, the relationship between the two organizations, both known for hard work and commitment to success, became exclusive and today Meyers Movers is the Proud Moving and Storage provider of the Chicago Bears.
Meyers Movers proudly handles all the equipment moving needs for the Chicago Bears and other visiting NFL teams, and over the years has done a tremendous amount of work for players, coaching staff, Bears employees and members of the Chicago Bears family and network of friends.
In 1991, Ken and Linda Miller's son Brad came to work for the company full time. Working in sales and hands on out on the trucks, very much like the 3 generations before him. Brad continues to have an impact on Meyers Movers and provides the award-winning customer service as the generations before him.
In 1994 Meyers Movers needed even more space. With our main headquarters located in Itasca, IL we occupied another 20,000 square feet of warehouse space in Lombard, IL. This helps Meyers Movers have the flexibility to keep long-term storage separate from our monthly clients.
From 1996-2001 Kenneth Miller served multiple terms on the Paul Arpin Agent Advisory Board. Here he was the liaison between the individual agents and reported back to headquarters with the issues at hand.
2007 marks the 81st anniversary of Wm. Meyers Movers and the third and fourth family generation continues to work hard at maintaining a high degree of consumer satisfaction. Meyers Movers still bases daily operations on the understanding that moving can be a very difficult time for individuals and their families, and therefore does everything possible to make it easy, comfortable, and safe during the moving process.
